With today’s skyrocketing rates of obesity, heart disease, and strokes it’s more important than ever to be mindful about our food. What does that mean? It’s simple. Being mindful about what you eat is merely the act of being aware of the ramifications that every piece of food you place in your mouth could have upon you and our planet. Where does it come from? Did it have a mommy? Why does your tofu taste so sad?
These are just some of the questions a thoughtful eater considers but mindful eating is so much more than just a list of questions. It’s a mindset. It’s a diet. It’s a lifestyle that benefits your health and the planet as well!
To begin eating mindfully the first thing you need to do is to record everything you eat. This list will serve as a way to become more aware of your gluttonous habits and their detrimental effects upon your health. Does that yogurt come from non-GMO cultures? Are those chicken breasts free from antibiotics and hormones? Slowly but surely, after a few weeks, you’ll begin to reconsider everything you eat and the pounds will start melting away.
Once you’ve developed a chronic sense of self-loathing it’s time to explore your relationship with food. Are you REALLY hungry for that chocolate chip cookie or just upset because your mother didn’t ever let you eat sweets? Did you eat four bananas for their potassium or are you just missing your significant other? Is your hankering for red meat an attempt to recapture your dwindling masculinity? As you start to question your relationship with what you eat you’ll discover that your attitude about food will change and become rife with devastating emotional consequences.
